Wondering If You Should Hire A Bookkeeper? The Answer Is Yes! Read Why...

Updated: Aug 3, 2018

Many business owners just starting out do everything themselves because they’re short on money to hire help. Things like creating a website, managing social media, marketing, networking, bookkeeping, sales, maintaining clients, working with vendors, keeping up with paying the bills, and then actually performing the work of the business all need to be done. It’s exhausting to take on all of these important, time consuming roles yourself especially if you’re not an expert in these areas. We’ve learned to outsource most tasks so that we can spend focused time on what we do best, which is providing superior, targeted bookkeeping services to our clients.

Although it’s tempting to try to keep up with your company’s bookkeeping by yourself, and you may be able to stay current while your business is very small, there will come a time when you get busy and you’ll fall behind. Most of the owners of small- to medium-sized businesses we’ve worked with over the years can’t effectively keep up with their bookkeeping when they’re swamped with customers and are juggling many duties throughout the day. Many of them don’t ever want to deal with their company’s bookkeeping, so they enlist someone they know to handle it. That’s ok if this person is a qualified bookkeeper, but frequently they’re not and they will make mistakes that can be very costly and time consuming to correct.

It’s always better to have a qualified, experienced bookkeeper on your team right from the beginning. Peter Daisyme, co-founder of Hostt and former accountant, wrote a great article for Entrepreneur.com: 10 Reasons You Should Hire a Bookkeeper for Your Startup Some of the many benefits that Peter explains in his article are :

  • You’ll be able to focus on your core business needs

  • You’ll have correct tax filings

  • You’ll have help maintaining cash flow

  • You can escape the tedious aspects of the business (which bookkeepers actually enjoy!)

Read Peter’s article for more details and for six additional reasons why hiring a knowledgeable bookkeeper early on is a smart move for your small business.
